SkillSprout publishes practical guides to free courses, trade skills, certificates and jobs, for people who want to learn something new and earn more without spending a fortune.
What we do
We look at free and low-cost ways to build real skills: online courses, apprenticeships, trade training, licences and certificates, and the apps and job boards that help you find work. For each one we explain what it covers, how long it takes, what it really costs (including exam and material fees), who recognizes it and what it can realistically lead to.
Our editorial principles
- Independent. Course providers, schools and job platforms do not pay us to recommend them. When that changes for any article, we will say so clearly at the top.
- Realistic about pay and certificates. We use published wage data and say where pay varies by state, region and experience. A free certificate can help you stand out, but it is not the same as a licence, an accredited qualification or years of experience, and we make that difference clear.
- No guaranteed jobs. No course, certificate or app can guarantee you a job or a specific salary, and we never claim otherwise. Be wary of anyone who does, especially if they ask for money up front.
- Kept up to date. Programs, prices and requirements change. We review our guides regularly and show the date of the last update.
How we are funded
SkillSprout is free to read. It is funded by advertising, which is served by Google and its partners. Advertising never influences what we write.
